How to commission your own paper art sculpture
I have made a variety of bespoke paper art sculptures, over a broad range of price points. Sometimes it is as simple as making paper flowers in a particular shade, hanging a name plaque under a wall art piece, or adding a fez to a magpie! I have also built completely new designs for customers. Some favourites were a giant wall sized tree, a bear, and a Liver bird. Paper wedding anniversary gifts and pet portraits are a frequent request and it’s always lovely to make these special items for you. While I am primarily a bird artist, if you like my work I am happy to discuss designing various other things too!
HOW IT WORKS:
If you’d like to commission a paper art sculpture of your own, I am very happy to talk you through any ideas via email, or a consultation via zoom. It is a collaborative project of your ideas and my paper sculpting, and you can be very much involved in all the design making along the way. Designs can often be scaled up or down, or made more or less intricate depending upon your budget. (Though do note that small does not necessarily mean cheaper, as fiddly and intricate shapes are time consuming to build.) Please fill out the form below and I will get back to you soon.
With your commission you can be as specific as you want to. Sometimes I am asked to suggest colours or arrangements and sometimes I am sent wallpaper samples and pantone colours for colour matching! Please bear in mind that every piece is one of a kind. I can’t produce a replica of a previous piece for you. Nor do I want to, as it is important each customer knows their piece is unique.
TIME FRAME:
Designs take roughly one month from prototype to finished piece, but this is usually dependent upon my current schedule, as well as how many alterations you might want to the design along the way. Please let me know if you have a deadline or a special date in mind. November is an especially busy time, and orders will take longer in the run up to Christmas.
I can give you a price estimate and a time frame in reply to your first message, so you know where you stand.
GET UPDATES OF YOUR SPECIAL PIECE AS IT IS BEING MADE
Once a commission has been agreed, I will create a prototype, and will send photographs via email. This will usually be a rough white paper model, so you may need to use your imagination at this stage! If I have any previous examples of similar work, I can send through some photographs, to give you an idea of what the finished piece will look like.
Once you are happy with the agreed design, price and time frame, I will ask you to pay 50% of the commission fee while I complete your order. I’ll send more photos for you to look at and you can tell me what you like and what might need altering.
IT’S UP TO YOU HOW INVOLVED YOU ARE IN MAKING THE PIECE
Sometimes it’s nice to have a record of how we designed the piece together, especially if it is an important gift for a loved one. If you want to see every sketch and photo of every stage of the designing and making process, I am very happy to send lots of email updates. I can also send the initial sketch in the parcel with the finished sculpture. If you’d rather wait and be surprised, then I can send you a photo once I think it is finished and you can give your final approval.
Once you’re happy and the piece is completed, it will be listed in the shop for you to pay the final 50% and then it will be posted out to you. All sculptures are wrapped in a box with a paper ribbon bow, so it will either be a happy parcel for you to receive, or ready to give as a gift.
