Welcome to Kaper, the paper sculpture menagerie

Hello! I’m Kate.

I am a paper artist and printmaker. I make nature themed home décor to bring cheer to your walls, bookshelves and mantelpieces. Handmade sculpture that makes a house your home.

I make paper sculptures celebrating the beauty of the great outdoors, for nature lovers, and especially celebrating birds- our beloved garden visitors! It is my aim to capture the beauty and delight of Britain’s favourite birds and flowers we find in a walk in the woods, and harness a little bit of that magic for your walls and shelves. I am also inspired by parrots and tropical species further afield.

Treading lightly on the environment is important to me. My paper art is made from recycled papers and I aim to create minimal waste.

Each paper sculpture is built by hand, building layers and layers of really sturdy (300GSM) recycled cardstock. Each sculpture is made in sections to create unique postures for each piece. My paper is decorated using traditional printing methods such as monotype and screen printing, which also emphasises their individuality; no two sculptures are ever the same. Each piece has their own colour palette and patterns, with a unique pose and embellishments to give them their own personality.

Feedback from my lovely customers:

  • I’ve purchased 2 barn owls and both are gorgeous. Really beautiful to look at, but also they feel lovely, really well made. Clearly a lot of skill and care has gone into their making. They also arrive really quickly and are always well packaged. I adore them and can’t wait to add to my collection.

White Hydrangea Floral Wreath

White Hydrangea Floral Wreath
£38.00

This white hydrangea has 18 blooms. They are accompanied by leafy stems in sage green shades. I added lustre to the leaves to give them a gentle shimmer.

The floral wreath has no hanging hook, so you can place it however you’d like to, hanging from its wire hoop, onto a hook or nail tack on your wall. The main frame of the floral wreath is made with a rather unwieldy steel wire, which holds its shape very well. The stems of the hydrangea blooms and the leafy stems are made with brass wire, which is strong enough to handle, but is pliable if you fancy having a particular leaf point in one direction.

Approximately 20 cm (8 inches).

Hydrangeas are said to represent gratitude, grace and beauty. White hydrangeas in particular represent purity and are often associated with weddings.

Other colours and flower design s are available. Please get in touch if you would like me to make something especially for you.

Arrives wrapped in a box, adorned with paper ribbon.

UK delivery is free.

Splendid Fairywren on a leafy wreath
£95.00

This happy little blue bird perches on a wreath of various leafy stems and pale blue clematis flowers.

The splendid fairywren hails from Australia and has striking blue plumage in various vibrant shades. He measures about 15 cm from tail to beak. His wreath features eucalyptus leaves, six pale blue clematis blooms, and two other types of leaf shapes in darker green tones.

The floral wreath measures about 25 cm in diameter and hangs on the wall via a little steel hook, suspended from the top of the wreath with invisible fishing line. Sturdy but lightweight; the wreath will hang on a hook or nail tack on the wall.

Barn Owl Family on a white hydrangea Wreath

Barn Owl Family on a white hydrangea Wreath
£285.00

This barn owl family is a unique paper sculpture depicting a large mama owl and a baby owl perched beside her on a wreath of white hydrangea blooms.

Barn owls were my first design of my bird themed paper sculptures and they remain one of my favourites to make. Did you know that barn owls, with their distinctive heart shaped faces, are the only species within the genus Tyto? All other owl species are in the genus Stryx and are known as ‘true’ owls.

The large barn owl has a white belly with golden brown feathers on her sides and back. Her head is angled to the right as you look at her, towards her baby. Her baby is made from the same screen printed papers, so they match. The large owl is approximately 26cm tall, and her baby is about 10 cm tall.

They sit on a floral wreath, festooned with white hydrangea blooms and green leaves. The flowers are in several clusters around the wreath. White hydrangeas symbolise purity, grace and abundance. They are said to be the ideal flowers for weddings and new babies.

This whimsical wall art measures around 35 cm (14 inches) wide and 45 cm (18 inches) tall.

UK delivery is free.

I’ve never seen a barn owl in the wild; I’ve only ever seen them in zoos or animal parks. I’d love to see them one day. Though I do find their screeching calls a little haunting! If I lived in the countryside, I would spend my nights hiding out in an observer shed trying to spot them. It must be absolutely magical.

If you would like a personalised barn owl family to depict your own, whether that’s extra babies, large or small barn owls, do get in touch as I would be happy to make a wall piece especially for you.

Don’t like the wreath? I can make different flowers or foliage to match your home dècor.
