Welcome to Kaper, the paper sculpture menagerie

Hello! I’m Kate.

I am a paper artist and printmaker. I make nature themed home décor to bring cheer to your walls, bookshelves and mantelpieces. Handmade sculpture that makes a house your home.

I make paper sculptures celebrating the beauty of the great outdoors, for nature lovers, and especially celebrating birds- our beloved garden visitors! It is my aim to capture the beauty and delight of Britain’s favourite birds and flowers we find in a walk in the woods, and harness a little bit of that magic for your walls and shelves. I am also inspired by parrots and tropical species further afield.

Treading lightly on the environment is important to me. My paper art is made from recycled papers and I aim to create minimal waste.

Each paper sculpture is built by hand, building layers and layers of really sturdy (300GSM) recycled cardstock. Each sculpture is made in sections to create unique postures for each piece. My paper is decorated using traditional printing methods such as monotype and screen printing, which also emphasises their individuality; no two sculptures are ever the same. Each piece has their own colour palette and patterns, with a unique pose and embellishments to give them their own personality.

Feedback from my lovely customers:

  • I’ve purchased 2 barn owls and both are gorgeous. Really beautiful to look at, but also they feel lovely, really well made. Clearly a lot of skill and care has gone into their making. They also arrive really quickly and are always well packaged. I adore them and can’t wait to add to my collection.

Bluebell wreath
£48.00

This paper flower wreath boasts nine blue trumpet-shaped bluebells, surrounded by leafy stems. The bells are made from paper which has been painted in indigo blue and metallic inks, so they have a lovely delicate sheen to them. There are two types of leafy stem: a pale but bright green with pointed leaves and a blue green with rounded leaves.

Each bluebell flower is about 3 cm tall.

The wreath is approximately 21 cm tall and wide.

The mini wreaths have no hanging hook, so that you can hang it on the wall in whatever direction you fancy. It will hang on a nail or picture hook directly from its paper-wrapped steel frame.

Tawny Owl Mama and Baby

Tawny Owl Mama and Baby
£275.00

This paper sculpture depicts a large tawny owl and her baby, perched on a wreath of blue hydrangea blooms.

The tawny owls are made from hand printed papers in gold, chocolate brown, copper and silver. Their bellies are striped white and copper and their faces are pale gold. They have yellow beaks and yellow surrounding their black eyes.

The hydrangea flowers are predominantly blue, but they're not a flat colour, as I've speckled the paper with pink, purple and white to create a mottled multi tonal texture.

The tawny owls hang on the wall via a steel hook, which is suspended from the top of the wreath with invisible fishing line, at a drop of 30 cm (12 inches).

The whole wreath measures 41 cm (17 inches) tall and 34 cm (14 inches) wide. Mama owl is 25 cm (10 inches) tall.

Varnished with a UV protective lacquer, which seals their edges and makes them easy to wipe clean if they get a bit dusty. All they need is a tickle with a duster every now and then.

Tawny owls are definitely one of my favourites. They’re just so beautiful and I like to imagine they can be having a snooze in any big tree I pass when I go for a walk. They can be found all over the UK. They prefer woodland, but any large trees will do for roosting or nesting. They mate for life and have a clutch of two or three owlets every spring.
