Decorated floral letter wall hanging

When Jess and Mark were decorating their nursery for their baby girl Rose, they wanted to have her name on the wall in a similar style. Aptly for a baby named Rose, the theme was to be rose flowers.

First of all, I began shaping some wire rods into letters, similar to how I might write them. I was conscious of making the loop of the R big enough so that it didn’t disappear once it was adorned with flowers.

Jess was really interested in what the different colours of roses represent. Light pinks represent joy, grace and elegance. Light blue roses symbolise sensitivity and understanding, while lilac represents hope for the future and love at first sight. Jess wanted all of these pastel shades represented. The letter R was to be around 20 cm tall, with the other letters smaller, in lower case.

Jess and Mark liked the idea of having sparse wire, complimenting clusters of roses, rather than being evenly dispersed. We played around with composition and colour placement. Eventually they chose to have all of the different colours interspersed together. I added leaves in a paler shade than you might find on a real rosebush, because we felt it complimented the pastel tones.

It’s really pretty! It feels like summer every time we enter the room. Jess loved playing designer and choosing all the compositions. It was a really fun process.
