Paper artist Kaper (Kate Kelly) creates sculptures from hand printed papers, depicting various species of birds, among flowers and foliage. This collection was created with Lincolnshire in mind, featuring an array of birds one might encounter on a walk through the countryside. The sculptures are made entirely out of paper, with steel wire in their paper wrapped feet. Due to their construction, they are a lot more sturdy than they look! Kate uses recycled paper and tries to run her business with minimal waste and environmental impact. You may notice that the moss and lichen on the handmade tree stumps are made from shreds of paper offcuts from cutting out leaves! Each bird is designed to have its own pose, and embellished with unique markings, ensuring each sculpture is unique.
Kate has been a paper sculptor for 18 years and birds remain her favourite subject, largely because of their expressive poses and delightful hairdos. When she’s not making bird sculptures, she can usually be found doodling wildlife or flowers during a walk in the countryside, or playing with her splendid rescue parrots Pidgeon and Sam.
